Garden in Bloom: DOstamperSTARS DSC#189

Jar of a Garden in Bloom

DSC#189

This weeks' challenge inspired one of my favorite stamp sets Stampin' Up! Jar of Love.  But I also wanted to highlight the creative versatility of Stampin' Up! Garden in Bloom stamp set.  It was so hard to choose, so I created this card with a surprise technique!

So, let's get started with the fun!  Look for the surprise, here are the supplies that you will need.  Can you guess how the jar was made?

Cut two Crushed Curry Cardstock 5 x 6 1/4, two Elegant Eggplant Cardstock 4 3/4 x 6, and two watercolor paper 4  1/2 x 5 3/4.  Inks used include  Crushed Curry, Elegant Eggplant, and Garden Green.  Garden in Bloom is designed as a two-step stamp set that creates a beautiful water color effect.  Techniques used include watercolor painting, and masking.

Start by stamping lined images on whisper white cardstock.  Cut with paper snips to create masks of the stamped images.

First stamp the outlined flower images in Crushed Curry and Elegant Eggplant.  Fill in between the flowers with the outlined leaf images.  To create the over lapping of the leaves use the flower and leaf masks when stamping in Garden Green.  To create the centers of the Crushed Curry flowers stamp shaded circle in Elegant Eggplant.  Color the inside of the Elegant Eggplant flower with Crushed Curry and Aqua Painters. Stamp the inside of the flowers with the corresponding ink and shapes to create the deep color.  Watercolor with Aqua Painters to spread shading and fill in white spaces of the flowers.

Now for the secret surprise technique!  Create the jar by bending and stamping with the stem stamp and London Fog Memento Ink (retired) or Smoky Slate Classic Stampin' Pad.  Cut mask for the front portion of the rim of the jar.

Sponge edges of jar with London Fog Memento Ink (retired) or Smoky Slate Classic Stampin' Pad.  Sponge the deepest color on edges and inside rim, then lighter sponging in vertical strokes toward center.

Place mask over rim of jar and stamp stems from base of flowers to over jar.  Don't forget to place flower masks over the flowers before stamping.

Create sentiment tags for the outside and inside of card with the Scalloped Tag Punch and Elegant Eggplant for the sentiments and Crushed Curry for the flower.  Lines were created with the stem stamp.

Mat tags with Crushed Curry Cardstock.

Tie sentiment tags with Solid Bakers Twine.  For the front sentiment tag wrap twine three times around rim of jar and secure with dimensionals on back of jar.

Stamp flowers on watercolor paper and watercolor with Aqua Painters.  Cut out flowers with paper snips.

For inside of card mat with Elegant Eggplant and Crushed Curry Cardstock.  Stamp flower design as shown on Whisper White Cardstock.  Adhere sentiment tag to inside of card.

Cut jar to fit on card with aligning stems and adhere with dimensionals.  Adhere with dimensionals two cut flowers over open spaces between flowers.

Send to someone special and enjoy the smile that it brings on their face!
